| Increased Risk of Accidents When Driving at
Night |
|
| - |
|
 |
Driving
at night is often more difficult for some and has in fact been found to
be more dangerous than driving during the day. According to the National
Safety Council, traffic death rates are three times greater
at
night than during daylight hours. 90% of a driver's reaction depends on
vision, and vision is severely limited at night. Depth perception,
color recognition, and peripheral vision are compromised after sundown. |
|
|
| - |
|
During
these hours, we rely on artificial sources of light while driving and
thus become more sensitive to bright lights and other distractions.
Some may experience blurred distance vision, night myopia, vision
fatigue, or simply have difficulties viewing road signs, pedestrians,
and other obstacles due to the lack of available light. |
|
|

|
In
order to prevent accidents in all hours of the day, traffic control
products are installed to help drivers keep their speeds to a minimum.
Traditional devices made of concrete or asphalt however, are often
difficult to see during the day, let alone at night. They may sometimes
be painted (often yellow or white) and are usually accompanied by a
warning road sign. Although this may be adequate for those driving
in |

|
daylight,
they are sometimes impossible to spot well in advance at night. Devices
that are installed to help increase safety may actually contribute to
the many dangers apparent when driving after sundown.
What
traffic control products are highly effective during the day, and at
night?
GNR Technologies is
a
leading manufacturer of parking lot safety solutions made of 100%
recycled rubber. These environmentally-friendly products include

Older
drivers have even greater difficulties seeing at night. A 50-year-old
driver may need twice as much light to see as well as a 30-year old. |
